Lets discuss problems and strategies related to GMAT / CAT / MBA quantitative ability here.
Which of the following is not a possible value of (x2 + 4x + 5) / (x + 2) for real x?
-3
-2
-1
2
(x2 + 4x + 5) / (x + 2) = (x2 + 4x +4 + 1) / (x + 2) = [(x+2)2 +1]/(x+2) = (X+2) +1/(x+2)
Since y + 1/y >=2 or <=-2 for y=/= 0
so (x+2) +1/(x+2) >=2 or <=-2 for x=/= -2 Hence -1 is the correct answer
