25 years of the Hubble Space Telescope

- Launched on 24 Apr. 1990 by space shuttle ‘ Discovery’

- Produced Fundamental Discoveries
- Brought paradigm shift in understanding of universe.
Achievements :
- Determine rate at which our universe has been expanding (within 10% of accuracy)
- HST found our universe not only expanding but also accelerating
- Crash landing of comet shoemaker- Levy9
- March 2015 – Subsurface ocean in Ganymede, Jovian Satellite
- 1996 – Long exposure photograph of universe through hole in our milky way galaxy .
- It told us how the process if star formation in galaxies first increased and then waned in last few billion years or so .
- HST helped to make was that almost every galaxy contains a black hole in its centre.
