Method 1: Check the original number if it is both an even number (divisible by 2) and (divisible by 3).
This is the best way to check if a number is divisible by 6 or not.
Method 2: Take the number (say 24684).
Drop the last digit in the number (2468 4, adding together the remaining number (2468 becomes 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 20).
Multiply that by four (20 × 4 = 80), and add the last digit of the original number to that (80 + 4 = 84).
If this number is divisible by six, the original number is divisible by 6.
Example :
- 4236 (This is the original number)
- 4236 ÷ 3 = 1412(Check to see if the original number is divisible by 3)
- 4236 ÷ 2 = 2118 OR 1412 ÷ 2 = 706 (Check to see if either the original number or the result of the previous equation is divisible by 2)
- 4236 ÷ 6 = 706 (If either of the tests in the last step are true, then the original number is divisible by 6. Also, the result of the second test returns the same result as the original number divided by 6)
