Vocab Tadka : Loath vs Loathe (Confusing Words)
Today we will discuss the difference between two similar sounding words Loath and Loathe.
Loath : unwillingness to do something contrary to your custom; strongly opposed
Type: Adjective
Synonym: loth, reluctant, antipathetic, antipathetical, averse, indisposed, loth,
Usage : He was loath to admit that he was included in the deal. (He was unwilling).
How to remember : L-oath..oath..so if one has taken an oath of not doing what his teacher tells him.. he is very unwilling and reluctant to listen to his teacher.
Loathe : find repugnant; to hate intensely.
Type : Verb (emotion)
Synonym : abhor, abominate, execrate,
Usage : Alex loathes spiders. (Hates them intensely)
How to remember : Loa-the –> Low thought…Having a low thought of someone else implies hate 🙂
